I have gained so much knowledge with the process of starting this blog; mainly by learning from other blogger’s posts, pages and youtube videos. I kindly want to return the favor and share the things that I have found useful.
First steps for setting up a food blog.
- Your domain. Bluehost is a great platform to start with. It is easy and simple to set up a domain. They have a great affiliate program that you can set up if you are looking at monetizing your blog.
- WordPress. The benefits of WordPress are endless. It might be a bit tricky initially to get used to the html language, but you will get the hang of it and there are many tutorials online if you get stuck at any stage. WordPress enables you to instal plug-ins for any functions that you want to add to your site.
- Genesis framework. With the initial installation you will have the option of activating a number of free basic themes for your blog. You don’t have to spend money on upgrading right away. I do however recommend the Genesis framework with one of its child themes. It has been set up with….
- Food Blogger Pro. I can’t stress the point of how much I have learnt from this community.
What about Food photography?
I currently use a Canon 50D camera that I bought while at Uni. I have only recently been learning how to use it properly. The lenses are key to taking better photographs. I use a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens for most of the photographs and the window as the main natural light source.
